Michael J. Hightower, independent historian and blogger, recently offered strong praise for Michael Rosser and Diane M. Sanders’ book, A History of Mortgage Banking in the West: Financing America’s Dreams in his review in the Western Historical Quarterly. He concludes, “Industry professionals and students alike will find this book to be a useful guide to the myriad ways that mortgage bankers have financed the nation.”

Rosser and Sanders’ work is published by University of Colorado Press, and offers “an insider’s account of how the mortgage banking sector worked over the last 150 years, including analysis of the causes of the 2007 mortgage crisis.” As Colorado faces increased population growth, questions of property ownership and mortgages become ever more important issues in the state. This work offers insight into the historical roots of this issue, as well as into the federal government’s role in national housing policy and mortgages.
